Yew Piney Mountain-Liza Jane

This first tune, Yew Piney Mountain, comes from a homemade "ragged-but-right" tune tape put together by Mac Benford. The second, Liza Jane, is from an old-time concert in Washington D.C. captured for posterity on an exceptionally lo-fi Dictaphone tape!

While a Dictaphone may not be the greatest medium for recording live music, it does a fine job of picking up every comment, squirm, foot-stomp, clap, breath, wink, blink, and nod of the taper. These are recorded so loud as to totally mask the band for seconds at a time.

Because of that, it isn't altogether clear if the recording featured any vocals. But, these traditional Liza lyrics seemed to fit even if they are usually paired with a different melody.
